Hello Thailand. Anyone got any info about this place? I'm thinking of a holiday there. Good place to stay? Nightlife?...etc, etc. I'll be coming from China.

Really the 'high end' resort of Thailand, with prices to match. I was there last week. I liked it.

There is nightlife, but the sleazy Pattaya-type bars are on 2 or 3 night sois. The place is more 'respectable' than Pattaya. The King now spends most of his time in his palace on the beach there, and hardly any time in BKK except for official duties.

The HH beach is 'nice', fairly clean, and long (11km). You can ride horses for a fee, jet-ski etc.

There are a lot of German expats in HH, and a few Scandis. In Pattaya there are more brits and russians. In HH there are wine shops and delicatessens.

I saw quite a few drunks late at night (expats).

The tuk-tuk drivers hassle you a bit, to ride with them. Unfortunately, the TTs are expensive, and you have to haggle. My (Thai) boyfriend was quoted 500b just for a 10 min ride to a temple out of town. In BKK would be 100b.

The bus from BKK leaves the southern bus stn every half hour, and is about 130baht. Cheap. Takes 2.5 hours. Always get an aircon bus from a good firm. There are about 3 buses per day from MoChit Bus Stn (near Chatuchak), which suits some people.

However, a friend who is an 'old hand' in HH reckons that the train journey in 1st class from BKK (only one train per day has 1st class) is divine, does inland etc and takes 4 hrs. The HH train station is a delight, like a brightly painted old English colonial chocolate-box.

U can find fair accom for about 2000b, several newish hotels. The Sofitel is said to be one of the best hotels in thailand, about 6000b. We couldn't get in (full), so stayed at a new and charming resort next door (pm me for name). You should book by email for better deals...look up HH hotels.

Thanks, P.ed. I've been going blind on the computer tonight looking at hotels.
Finally settled on Baan Duangkaew. Know anything about it? I have planned to take the train, as buses are boring. Expect a PM, thanks again.

A little spendy eh? Isn't Pattaya 600-800 baht per night? Why would I go there and spend 2000 b?

Up to you. Everyone according to their means.

Hua Hin is known to be quite pricey. I think that there are one or 2 very basic places (fan only) for about 600b. A 'regular' place, nice room, clean, aircon, use of pool, would be more expensive than the same in Pattaya.

Even the basic eateries in HH are more pricey than i expected.

Fortunately, I am not young and not a backpacker. I am able to live without depriving myself of certain things.

right now is considered the low season everywhere in thailand - 2,000 per night would be ridiculous even with some comfortable amenities - 6000 ABSURD, what are you paying them for - to bathe and feed you?

shop around a bit, ask to look at some rooms, im sure you can find something more than suitable for a more reasonable price. 1000 baht or less, with an air con, western toilet, whatever you need. ive been to HH and at least had those luxuries for 800 Baht per night.

i also might add - Hua Hin beats the hell out of Pattaya any day. stick to Hua Hin for a more relaxed, enjoyable vacation.
