IMO you should have to have QTS in your own country to get a job in a secondary school here teaching any subject, including ESL. Teaching in a school is much more than teaching your subject. Its about teaching the person, not only the subject. It about supporting ALL students including those with special needs at all ends of the spectrum. Its about understanding the massive amount of different situations that all children have and how this impacts their learning as a whole (not just your subject) and their development as an individual. All of these things you learn from experience, guidance from other teachers and appropriate reading and study. You don't get this from TEFL courses. Get QTS in your own country and you will be a better teacher and paid appropriately. |
