Hey guys I hope someone can help me out abit. I did read the FAQ and have searched the sight but I want direct opinions and input

Ok im really interested in going to Japan

My Education is like this
-2 Year Tourism Marketing and Operations College Diploma
-TEFL Certificate

Now I dont have a bachelors and I know that will hurt my odds at alot of places. BUT with what I have is there a good chance to find something even if its at a private school?

Also should I always try to go for a contract? Or would getting a working holiday visa do. My girlfriend is from Japan so I can stay with her when I go there.

Anyways if anyone has any personal experience in dealing with this or any input I would appreciate it greatly.

Im just looking for a glimmer of hope. I understand that having a bachelors degree hurts my chances at ALOT of places but thats ok. I just want hope for a CHANCE to teach.

You start by contacting places where you might have an edge. Most tourism departments at universities employ English teachers.

But lets say I dont want to use the tourism part.

I just want to teach elementry students maybe at a private school. Im just wondering if I do enough research and talk to the right people if theres a good oppourtuinity to get a job?

Again without the bachelors I know im really limiting the places where I could work. I just want to be able to work somewhere and

Im sure I can but its nice to hear people say that cuz all I read about is always bachelors.

Perhaps someone can correct me, but as far as I know you can't teach English in Japan without a university degree. Where are you from? Canadians can do a working holiday for a year with a 2 year degree I believe. In Japan, a degree, regardless of the field is a minimum requirement for processing a work visa.

In canada yes I can get a working holiday visa. So thats probably the route im going to have to take.

Also I have a 2 year college diploma.

The problem is some countries dont have colleges, they just go by university and then the whole difference between a diploma and a degree and everything else.

I guess my best route to take would be to get in contact with a bunch of schools and see exactly what they require.

From the responses that ive got back it seems like the working holiday visa route could work.

So ill just develop some contacts and try to find a way IN hahaha

Just realize that some of the big Japanese institutes have been closing of fairly recent and that it will be impossible for you to get one of better paying positions as the competition will be high. You are most likely going to have to work at a few places to get enough hours in to make reasonable money. It used to like this in Taiwan.

So get your working holiday visa and stay at your girlfriend's place and start picking up hours here and there.

Thanks for all the input. As I say I realize that I really gotta go for whatever I can get. At least I plan to visit Japan anyways so either or if things arent working out then its fine it would just turn into a nice vacation.
