No chance - I am past menopause.
It is the words with double spellings that confuse me now. Mississippi is still easy, not having a Spanish cognate. But embarrass, possible, assiduous, accumulate - making accommodate and recommend suspect. |

| Before Spanish crept into my brain, I was known as Super-Speller. Now I'm still better than most but sometimes have trouble with words with doubled consonants and with cognates that differ by only one letter like "virgen" and "virgin". To get it right in English, I think of the Spanish spelling (which you can easily figure out from the pronunciation) and then change the one letter that is different. |
