Hi -
I was just wondering if anyone knows if short term assignments are still available? Do most schools require a full 1 year contract position ?
Do places offer 4-6 month placements?
Just curious.
Thank you! |

What country(ies) are you interested in?
In Japan, probably >98% of contracts are for a year.
As has been mentioned many times, depending on your setup costs, it may not be financially prudent to engage in such a short stay. |

Yes there are places. Are you looking for summer schools? |

For short-term assignments I am looking at a few countries: Mexico, Russia, Latin America, Czech Republic and other possibilities in Eastern Europe.
I have looked into Summer schools but most of them are hiring now and my certificate program doesn't finish until the end of this month. Furthermore, most of the summer school programs require you to have previous teaching experience which I currently do not have. |

Normal contract periods in the Czech Rep, as in most of Europe, are Sept-June. You might pick up something January - June if a teacher doesn't return from holiday breaks, but it's unlikely that any school will specifically hire you for a lesser period unless they happen to be in a bind.
You should be aware that if you are not a citizen of an EU member country, getting work permits for Europe is a lengthy and difficult process, not worthwhile for short term assignments. |
