| In fact the fees at the school I'll work at are 7 ( yes seven times as much for ex-pats) times as much for "foreigners". |
Kind of makes 10,000/month seem even tinier - international school wages are indeed plummeting - but when folk out there accept them that's how it goes |
and have we been comprehending?
Have we been listening?
It would apperar the answer is , 'no'.
My children will go to to the public school system where they will get an authentic Chinese language education. (at a small fraction of the cost otherwise.)
Cheers

Well since I assume that they're being allowed to attend the school that you're going to teach at free (or are you allowing them to enrol in a normal Chinese state-school), which may mean you're not going to be handed a huge wad of notes to pay for their education after you check out different schooling possibilities - well yes we do have a little understanding for the situation
But then again, regardless of which school your kids attend, how can this free-school perk be much of a consolation to ordinary FT's who see an international school wage standard being aided into sinking down to the 10K level
By the way to put this thread back on topic - shouldn't the perfect job have to stand the test of time??????? |

assumtions are sometimes made!
pereptions can also cloud the issues!
I've been dealing with teaching EFL in China for 31 years now.
That's here in 1977 if you do the maths. Let me tell you that I know the situation here. My wife is Shanghainese and my son went to a Chinese kindergarten for 3 years. I'm very happy to be going back! ps - money is not what teachng in China is about .....but it sure helps. LOL. |

Well since our employers take that money very seriously - we do seem to be taking a ride to nowhere when we start to move our argument towards - "oh well I'm not in it for the money." (just look at those school fees Tang Wolun talks about his new school charging - I should think, for them running a school is all about money)
As professionals money must count towards finding that mirage of a perfect job - otherwise we risk the humiliation of ending up as poorly paid servants to the rich? Surely, in circumstances of low wages, perfect would lie closer to a place where you could take your talents out to those who are really in need, but can't afford to pay |

Update: Hopefully I can do this job for the few months agreed. 11 or 12 years since doing apple pie oral English, but it was a shock to see that :
The trainer knows not a blessed thing, but has tall tall tales.
The gym has no washing up facilities
Few "teachers" use blackboard, but lots of clowning around and dancing (hmm?)
Lots of broken contracts, and high turnover.
Gigantic Chinese staff of females, dressed like stewardesses.
Lots of non-English foreign "teachers".
Some descent folks,though.
The text is astoundingly pathetic.
Students range from disgusted to resigned. |

S0 the text is a phrase book...a freaking phrase book! So far I'm the ONLY one who is taking teaching seriously,as everyone else has their own agenda.
And you want to discuss split infinitives ? ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! |
