I know this is probably a silly question, but is it possible to find cat litter * cat food at supermarkets in Mexico? This is not always the case where I've lived previously (China & Korea), so I thought I'd ask so I know what to prepare and carry with me.

Thanks. I always feel kinda stupid when the answer is so clear-cut, but it's better to ask, you know?

When I lived in small-town Oaxaca, I found cat food (both tin and dry) very easy to find, but cat litter was often difficult to obtain, and I would stock up on it whenever it was available.

We're supposed to be (hope, hope, happy thoughts, fingers crossed) going to Merida.

It's often cheaper in the little corner stores - ask even if you don't see it as they may stock it.

The corner stores also often have a giant bag of food, and sell it by the kilo. Which is often cheaper than buying small bags at the supermarket, but more expensive than buying the 25 kilo bag yourself--but how long would it take for a cat to eat 25 kilos of food? Confused
My two dogs go through a 25 kilo bag in 6-8 weeks, so that's what I buy.

Merida is large enough that litter would be no problem. I just did it the old fashioned way and used sand when we had a cat.

I found litter boxes hard to come by at the grocery store (for the ferret), and ended up using a dishpan sort of thing. You would however easily find them at Mascota (ugh - sadly I have to buy my food there) or at a vets office (I would think . . .)

Not sure what you feed your cat, but low quality is what the grocery store has (whiskas, and the like), while a vets office, or Mascota have better quality (and more expensive) foods.

The girls eat a 15kilo bag monthly or so, and the price has gone from $658, to $717!! Mad Crying or Very sad

I've found cat litter in Guadalajara, Monterrey and Saltillo. I think that unless you're going somewhere really rural, you'll be able to find it. While we're so far off topic, if you buy Whiska's brand food, it will last like half as long as Purina. It's tempting because Whiska's is so much cheaper but I think it basically contains air.

as everyone already said... food and litter are not a problem. Litter boxes are not really available but I just use a large plastic storage bin. Litter scoops are hard to come by. I love the big metal one I bought at Petsmart last time I was in the States.

I use a large, metal, slotted spoon that was hanging out in my old place.

Collars, and leashes here I find to be expensive, and of bad quality. Thankfully, "grandma" picked a nice set up - and at a good price - for the street mutt. Just need to pick it up!
