As close as I am to Mexico (proximity), I am surprised to know the least about it in terms of opportunities. Very few jobs come into Dave's or Serious Teachers so I've mostly ignored this huge country with plentiful opportunities to share the English Language. And most of my google efforts have only resulted in gimmicks and disappointment.
I really never considered Mexico until I crossed a random opportunity a few months ago which didn't work out. And there is so much here to read in the Mexico forum (having only dial-up is a b----), so I am would like to know if can point me in directions of public schools and well-paying schools all over Mexico. All advice appreciated.
My location preference is Yucatan, and I will continue looking in this area.
Thank you for your time in advance. Hope to hear from someone soon

Mmm...not sure how great the job opportunities are out in the Yucatan. I would venture to say slim-nil. Of course, there are likely some, but being such a beachy kind of place, the pay is likely not great, especially in reference to a higher cost of living.
You cannot work at a public school here. Instead you need to look for private schools (kinder all the way to uni). Some pay well, some dont, and the job experience can be . . . interesting, and eye-opening.
What experience/qualifications do you have to teach? |

For teaching a taught ESL -- pertinent to marketing, business, and customer service -- to adults at a business in Latvia, a strange way to start, but I got by. In classroom, I spent a year teaching in Korea and earned a few TESOLs along the way.
Where should I go for ability? I did try DF and Guadalajara, but I don't even get first responses from 99% of the places I applied to. I got fed up with Mexico so I re-aimed my sites on Turkey, the Middle East and East Asia.
Any suggestions? |

I think the general concensus is that people hardly ever get hired, or even many responses applying online in Mexico. If you show up, it's very, very probable that you'll land a job, but you need to take that leap of faith to do it. A little scary, but if you're excited about being in Mexico it's the way to go. |

Do you have a university degree (not essential but very helpful here)? What do you mean by saying you've "earned a few TESOLs along the way"? I have a lot more teaching experience than you and 3 degrees, and have spent lots of time in Mexico, and only once have I gotten a concrete job offer before I got here. Otherwise, the most response I've had to on-line job inquiries are offers to call for an interview once I've arrived. |

serious teachers and dave's charge way too much for most schools in Mexico to advertize on. Try some of the free sites or the cheaper www.TEFL.com for jobs in Mexico. |

Hello everybody!
I'm new to this Forum. Please bear with me while I get used to it, all right?
Well, I reckon that it is more than ok to just show up ... any private school/ uni is really "hungry" for ESL teachers. And in confidence, I can say that every time I went to Mexico (twice so far!) I was able to get a job on the spot, really ... mind you in both occasions I lived in a very small town close to D.F.

Choose your preferred state and "Educacin" from the menus, and write "ingls" in the search box. (Try again later with "English", as some ads are in English).
Always lots of teachers jobs there. |

I just checked out this website and it was pretty slim pickins. Even in the D.F., where I know there are lots of opportunities, there were just a few jobs listed: two involved working with kiddies, and one was asking for business English teachers. The business English school said that no experience was necessary and that a minimum of a prepa education was required to apply, so you can imagine what kind of place that is. For the OP, there was nothing in the Yucatan. |

Oops sorry, just trying to help!
Many days there are a lot of jobs in DF, but admittedly I haven't tried other states.

That's probably because there aren't a lot of English teachers jobs in Yucatan! |

I know you were trying to be helpful - maybe in the summer, schools don't advertise much for new teachers. I also checked out Quertaro, where I've heard there are lots of jobs, and nothing much was happening there either. |
