I'm sure someone else has already asked this but i am curious. I teach currently in Korea but I love to travel and I like children. I know obviously you dont make as much money in indo but i am not donald trump and il have 20 grand saved by the time i leave here. What sort of lifestyle do typical teachers live. I dont need caviar and platinum jewlery but I dont want to starve. So if anyone could give me a rough approximation on money/lifestyle etc i would greatly apprecitate it...

Thanks a lot

Phil

Actually, contrary to popular belief, you can earn more teaching in Indonesia than a language school in Korea.

Combine that with a lower cost of living and you can afford a good lifestyle.

Other elements available in Indonesia which you'd be lacking in Korea include; fun, welcoming people and an open culture.

Combine all that, and it aint so bad.

You will be lucky to find the jobs paying more than 1000-1300 per month although they do exist. However you will need experience, possibly other credentials and a few connections to find them. These are usually at National Plus schools.Still as Rayman said they are out there. More than not you will work in a language school offer the former amount with accommodation in a shared teachers house or a stipulant for your own housing. With that kind of money you can live a comfortable life but will not be able to eat Western meals out all the time nor party excessively either.
The life you will have depends greatly on the area you choose. Personally I wouldn't reccommend teaching outside of the major cities unless you want everybody to stare at you and bug you all the time. Then again if you want that true Indonesian experience then go for it if you are not easily agitated.
What else-expect to get sick a lot due to the heat, mosquitos and hygiene standards-make sure you have your shots.
If you are looking for the company of ladies you will have no problem.
Pollution can be a big problem.
Don't let the muslim faced fool you-there are good muslims and bad muslims like in any religion.
The people are generally pretty friendly though you will feel outsted sometimes by language problems and different body language and customs.

All part of the package though. Compared to Korea it should be a walk in the park!

Plus, Korea sucks.

Shocked

you mean you lucky to earn more than 12million?

in jakarta, with celta and 1 years experience, you would have to be doing something wrong NOT to earn more than that. the only reasons you wouldn't get more are a) being too lazy to look for a better paid job or b) not being good enough to get one.

i would say that most people are a)

so people why do you do it?
