In Mexico City, 'business English" is a very general term. In my several years here, I've taught English in finance, aviation, insurance, trade, architecture, engineering, shipping, marketing, pharmaceutical, dentistry, diplomacy, technology, communications, and manufacturing, to name but a few.
Any business experience you have is helpful, but it's always going to be much broader than a single field. |

I have a a very liberal-artsy academic background. In the last year in Mexico City, I've taught English privately here to an architect/developer, a computer whizz, an engineer, and a medical doctor, with no complaints. You don't need a business background to teach so-called "Business English". |

A good teacher customizes the class for the profession of the student. One of the things I love about my job is that I have learned a lot about laser dentistry, the jewelry business, NGO's, international children's' rights, disabilities, gynecology, road construction, the restaurant business, TV news and farming.
By making English live and be relevant to my private students, I have kept some for almost three years now and have enriched my knowledge as well.
(yup - gynecology ) |

How true! I sometimes wonder who's teaching whom!
Another benefit of being a native English teacher is that you often get assigned the top people in the company, thereby establishing usual contact. Great place for networking is this business. |
