Is there any kind of market for Spanish in the Kingdom? I want to teach Spanish part-time while my husband teaches English full-time.
I'm going to be living in Dhahran from September.  |

There could be a small market. Private lessons might be the best. Try advertising in Aramco. It will be easier if you are qualified and experienced.
There are quite a few Spanish speakers around. Most are from the Americas. |

You've lost me, Scotty. The Spanish speakers you refer to won't be interested in Chocolatina's Spanish classes. They are already Spanish speakers.
I doubt that many Saudis would want to learn Spanish, either. However, I will concede that Spain did seem to interest many of my Saudi students in a way that, for example, Germany or Italy didn't. For obvious historical reasons. |

I warned you that Golf softens the btrain.
The point is that the other Spanish speakers in Eastern Province are competition for teaching jobs. Of course these people are not going to be looking for Spasnish lessons -unless they are the ones providing that service.
The market is not for Saudis but with the "expats". Any idea of how many bored housewives there are in Aramco ?
Now go back to the 19th Hole and leave us in peace. |

I always that the Gulf softened the ''btrain'' (brain ?) more than the Golf.
As for those bored housewives in Aramco? Now we know why you've stuck it there so long! You old devil! 
Going back to the golf. Why don't you give it a go? As Caledonian, it should be in your blood.

Well, I think Espanyoliko is dying, and nobody is interested to learn Spanish or Espanyoliko!!

Chocolatina, you might want to contact Dhahran Academy (also known as Dhahran International Schools Group), which is a private school group near Aramco. They have a campus that follows an American curriculum, and they teach Spanish. I don't know if you are qualified or if there are openings, but you could also volunteer to tutor.
More power to you for planning ahead to get past the boredom! |

Uncle Bond. You clearly know nothing about the great game that is golf. The course has 18 holes and the 19th is where we refresh ourselves after the round (i.e. drink beer).
Going back to Chocolatina, however. I imagine it would be tedious and frustrating trying to teach Spanish to ''bored housewives'' (a rather patronising term to use for ladies who are accompanying their hubbies in KSA, if you ask me.)
Creo que te vas a aburrir mucho dandoles clases del idioma de Cervantes a estas ''amas de casa aburridas''. Buscate otra cosa. Hay golf en Dahran.

I can say "bored housewives" in Saudi Arabia. There is no compulsion to be politically correct in the Magic Kingdom. WONDERFUL !
It is like "Life on Mars". ( A BBC series which I have just discovered. Time Travel back to the unenlightened '60's and '70's.) |

Well, sheikh, may be golf is a 'great' game for you, but for me, golf is a boring game and wasting of time and money!
In addition, golf, is for lazy people like 'kings' and 'queens' who have nothing to do in life only how to get a small white ball in a hole in the ground!!

Well, Uncle Bond! Let me tell you that I'm certainly a keen golfer but there is NOTHING regal about me. I am not a King and I am most definitely not a QUEEN, even if plenty of my compatriots in the Gulf are. We could have a game sometime. You, Scotty and I. |
