It's because, ummm, like, only the government can steal things legally. And because they can; they do! C'mon man, you're from Florida! You should know these things.

Oh, and headmasters can steal because they have no principals here! Smile

I am assuming that you have a conscience, Jeff. Come on, man. I understand how you feel. I go through it myself with university students. I always give the phones back.

I am considering buying a cell phone jammer from an outfit in Shanghai. It won't do any good for the gamesters, but it'll stop the messaging.

I've never had a problem, honestly. I just keep an eye on the students, and if I see a kid looking down, both hands below the desk, I just quietly cirlce behind him/her ... and smile, with my arm outstretched. I give the phone back after class, and then its never a problem again

Caveat .. I have done most of my teaching at unis.
