Hello.

My boyfriend and myself are going to be making the move to Taiwan soon and have a quick question regarding the crim. background check document needed.

I have researched a little and it seems from all of the official looking immigration websites that a crim. background check is needed. My question is do we need to order one from our home state or do we need to get one while in Taiwan through the police agency?

We would like to have them before we come to Taiwan to save time and it would be easier for us to order from our home state and county as we have already been through the process once before here in Korea.

Thanks for your help.

Oh and I did do some searching on dave's (ARC, criminal background check, fingerprints, etc) but I couldn't find the specific answer I'm looking for.

Thanks again for your help!

I came here 3 years ago and didn't need a criminal background check. Never heard of anyone needing one! Maybe a law just changed again.

I just applied for my ARC two months ago, and didn't need a criminal record check.

However, some schools may ask for it (Hess requires it, according to their website).

I think the police check is required if you are applying for a Joining Family Resident Visa (JFRV). This is only for people who are married to a Taiwanese citizen.

If you are just applying for a work permit and ARC based on this the police check is not necessary.
