Okay then. If you want some definitions of phrase and clause, you can send a PM.

I do like that! Perhaps you need some medical training?

Seems like you're all having fun in this thread, aren't you? It seems to be winding down a bit now though, I guess I'm too late to join in, aren't I?

Sorry, I don't need any definitions. He need to rewrite both sentence A and B. What exactly do these sentences suppose to be, non restrictive, appostive? You try to make sense out of this:

1. Our lives are closer and closer together.

2. Our lives are together closer and closer.

Closer and Closer don't need to be there. If he want to keep every word he said he must add commas. Closer and closer has to separate itself so the commas/comma is needed. Closer and closer would be a participial phrase if it was at the beginning and had a comma. Ex: Closer and closer, our lives are together. Neither sentence makes sense without commas/comma. There are noun phrase, prepostional phrase, participial phrase, and verbal phrase. 'closer and closer' would fall under participial if it was moved to the front and had a comma. Honestly, I do not know what he was doing with those sentences.

Oh dear. And you are lecturing the rest of us about grammar? Embarassed

You really must learn what a "tag question" is. I'll still take Michael Swan over you in discussions of what is acceptable in English. And have you come up with your definitions of phrase and clause yet?

Then of course there's this:
http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?p=678866&highlight=#678866

I just read over this comment. "tag" questions don't begin with I am. I hope that is not what you are implying.

Bamby, are you trying to be amusing, or am I just missing the point?

In my experience, most English teachers are able to recognize (and explain) double-negatives and tag questions.

Heck, I've got to admit it - I still check in to see Bamby's latest. But then, I slow down to gawk at bad traffic accidents, too.
It's a character flaw.
