Of course you are correct in this case, Scotty. But why do you enjoy living in a land where such backwardness is the norm? |

Maybe some of us don't see it as 'backward" . We do not all share the philosophy of the Women's Pages of the "Guardian"..
Or dream of walking around hitting a little whote ball with a long stick. |

I have no idea what you mean by the ''philosophy'' of the Women's Pages of the Guardian. Maybe the female posters could explain it to me. |

Not to mention having to hit that damn little ball in as few strokes as possible in to a tiny hole...9/ 18 times......regarding the little white ball and long stick... your analogy thus makes all sports seem stupid and lame if you think about it...since most sports involve hitting, chasing, sliding, throwing some size, shape form of a ball; one to one or in groups. or in some cases hitting each other with a ball or hitting each other period...no ball needed. Obviously there is mass appeal when you see thousands and thousands of people filling stadiums, etc round the world to watch these 'silly' games being played out. That's incredible mass appeal for such entertainment! Now what was this thread about |

| I was trying to point out that much human behaviour is irrational. Like learning Spanish in Saudi Arabia or playing Golf in Spain. |

Come on, Scotty. Tell us about the ''philosophy'' of the Guardian's Women's pages.
BTW, I don't dream of hitting the little white ball with a long stick. I do it!
Regards to a fellow haggis muncher.

It's not just the women's pages of the Guardian, but all over the place.
Google for Julie Bindel. La Bindelle is a professional feminist (she gets paid by a university to teach feminism). One of her more moderate pieces was entitled 'Why I hate men'. |

Interesting reading, Scotty. I wouldn't like to meet HER on a dark night!
Don't, however, see the relevance to our discussion of Spanish teaching and golfing in the Gulf/Spain.

My dear golfing Sheikh
You asked why I choose to live and work in a "backward' country. That is how we got here. It is time for you to get out your Mashie-niblicks and head for a bunker. |

"It is like "Life on Mars". ( A BBC series which I have just discovered. Time Travel back to the unenlightened '60's and '70's.)"
Superb stuff. Enjoy the ride, Scot. |

Listen old boy.
The only place you'll see a mashie or a niblick is in a golf museum, of which there are some in our native Caledonia. Anyway, I'll be out swinging in the morning in Andalus. Can't wait.

| Caledonia ? Aren't you glad that you left that gloomy, guilt-ridden land ? I am. And the whisky and the golf. |
