Suen praises critical thinking

Hong Kong's evolving curriculum will groom students to think critically and equip them with the skills to continue learning throughout their lives, according to Secretary for Education Michael Suen Ming-yeung.
Speaking at the fourth Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation's Education Ministerial Meeting in Lima, Peru, Suen said the changes will improve creative and critical thinking and cultivate positive values and attitudes.

"Applied learning courses to be offered under the new senior secondary academic structure will provide a broad and balanced curriculum for students," Suen said.

He also emphasized the importance of Hong Kong students being proficient in the territory's official languages.

"We fully recognize that teacher quality is critical to enhancing the learning of English," said Suen, adding entry qualifications for new language teachers would be raised.

Hahaha -- Dude, the last sentence is independent of the quote and blatant copy pushing.

If there was any real real story about the entry qualifications being raised, he would have quoted that instead of "We fully recognize that teacher quality is critical to enhancing the learning of English" - which is a arfing clich.

Either Chui had too much coffee to drink that morning, or his story is unfounded. While there may in fact be things being reported in better newspapers, I wouldn't get too excited about this particular article.

Cool

Oh - tee hee.

It's ironic that this Suen character seems to be a champion of
"critical thinking", while his reporters are expecting us to do the EXACT OPPOSITE.

There's a word for that.. Cool
