I have a feeling i'm going to get laughed off the board for this but my wife read some rumor somewhere that Abu Dhabi is (or will start) free electric and water service. Sounds TGTBT but one never knows what emirates will try to outdo each other with....thus the questions. Please be gentle with your ridicule.

Next question: bicycling in abu dhabi....on the streets? on the corniche? to work? any thoughts?

Finally: anyone recommend a good hospital to have a baby and are there any such thing as 'post-partem care centers"?

If this is true I'll be doing a happy dance from border to border. When do you arrive, dg?

Free for nationals maybe, but highly unlikely for expats. In most emirates there is a two tier pricing system, one for locals one for the rest of us. However, I've been wrong before - but I'll only believe it when I see it.

Bicycling on Friday mornings is doable - at any other time you are taking your life in your hands. Bicycles have no "rights" and drivers will not cut you any slack.

Corniche Hospital is a well maintained centre with excellent midwives. Very supportive even though it is a hospital. We had two children born there. It is not possible to have home births (our other children) in the UAE in case you were considering this. Post care depends on who other people might recopmmend as we had an excellent service from the ADNOC clinic.
