This is in the J W Marriot Hotel in March 2009. Does anyone have any idea of the cost of staying tin that establishment ? I wager that cheap it will not be.

Maybe I should inquire at the YMCA ?

I went to the conferences in 1997 and 1998 but that was in Al Ain when things were still cheap. Remember those halcyon days before the price of oil reached US$140 a barrel ?

A quick google search brought up a YMCA in Israel. A bit off the beaten track for TESOL Arabia. You might be thinking IYH.

Good luck.

Na. Too old for YMCA or YMHA or YMIA. That was a joke.
I will bite the bullet and flash the plastic at the Marriot.

Dear scot47,
From what I've been able to find out, the Marriott starts at $177 a night, but even the Hyatt regency is cheaper ($155 a night.)

Anyway, here's a link to some even cheaper (but which seem OK, including the Holiday Inn @ $105.)

Scot, I think we can come up with some places that charge by the hour, too. I'll talk to my people and get back to you with some rates. Wink

Last time I shared a room with a colleague in a hotel in Dubai and we split the hotel fee. I was practicing for job interviews at the Job Fair and he was an ex-recruiter from HCT.

That may be an option for TESOL Arabia 2009.

There are youth Hostels in both Dubai and in Sharjah.

You have to book in advance to ensure a dorm room, etc. You do not need Yh membership to stay - but it just costs a bit more. Buying a IYH membership will provide a saving if you stay more than 3 or 4 days..

Come on and join me. We can swap funny stories about teaching our students in the classroom. You must have loads of funny stories about goings-on in the classroom. I could tell you stuff that would make your hair curl.

Dear scot47,
Most mammals have hair in places other than on their heads. I presume that you are no exception.
