Can anyone recommend a local company that they've worked with? I'm looking to rent a car until I get my residency. |

I wouldn't recommend renting a car from a local company. They tend not to have very good insurance and some even try to keep your passport. I would however recommend renting from one of the major rental agencies conveniently located at the AD airport: Avis, National, Budget and so on. If you bargain a little, you can get better rates and also feel safe on the road.

I rented long term from a lot of local Dubai companies. The one thing I found was that they didn't always maintain the cars well (timing belt went with me in it on the Sheikh Rashid Road flyover to Wafi....at rush hour). Later though, I found a good place in Dubai. The cars were almost new; the prices so much cheaper; no one kept my passport. |

Diamond Lease is a reliable company.
People I know have been renting from them for years and they have been happy (good cars with low mileage etc.)
There is a Diamond Lease in Dubai but I am not sure about Abu Dhabi. |
