Hello, I'm in the process of moving to Japan, and have an opportunity to have a cheap apartment in the Oota area of Tokyo. Anyone on the board live in Oota? How is it? How's life there? Any advantages or disadvantages? I don't really have any specific questions, just general information or whatever comes to mind would be great. Thanks! |

I live near Omori station, one stop north of Kamata.
Ootaku seems nice enough. The Kehin Tohoku line will have you in Shinagawa in 8 minutes, Tokyo in 20 or Yokohama in 15 - quite convenient. Kamata also serves a couple of minor lines which head toward Meguro and Gotanda. City tax is a little high (but you won't have to worry about that for the first 12 months).
Kamata station has quite a lot going on around it and is just one stop from Kawasaki which has been transformed into a shopper's and movie goer's paradise over the last few years.
In Kamata you will be quite near the Tama river which is nice for walks. Other than that there is nothing too spectacular around here. A pretty standard Tokyo residential area. |
