Strange that.

Things must have changed from when I worked in Government schools in Korat and Khon Kaen over the last 3 years. They had air-con then and were reasonably resourced although class sizes averaged 35 students.

Silly me.

U should note:

There are a lot of sharp practices here.

Some TEFL courses are fine in theory, and may even be accepted by employers here. But, if they are not CELTA or Trinity, they have not been accredited by external bodies. Outside of Thailand you may find that they are almost worthless.

The 4 month thing is a scam. It is called work experience, and you may even get a salary. However, you will be sent like cannon fodder to a 3rd rate school, one of several which is 'fed' with newbie teachers from the scheme. Often these schools are poorly resourced, and are the schools which nobody wants to work at.

I live in Bangkok and teach at a leading university here. You can PM me with questions, or visit ajarn.com or TEFLwatch.org (or its successor).

Anyone who wants to see real, unedited end-of-course feedback on TEFL International can go to alumni.teflintl.com and click on "feedback". You will notce that overall feedback of the Special Thai Project is very good. Comments like "Life Changing" and "best thing I have ever done".

But its not perfect. Large classes. Some un air conditioned. Not easy work--but that is why we only ask for a 4-month committment.

Fike2308 was the only failure in a group of 8 and the only person in that group to complain. he failed because he could not develop communicative lesson plans and refused to teach using communicative methods.

We offered him free additional training and he refused. He then attempted to extort money from us by threatening to slander us on the internet. A promise he is keeping. He also sent us scores of angry, rude and threatening emails. The guy is sad and possibly dangerous.

If anyone would like to see real, unedited feedback from all of our course participants (not just the happy ones) just go to alumni.teflintl.com and click the link to "Feedback".

If Fike (or anyone else for that matter) feels that their course was unsatisfactory they can take it up directly with me or contact the Better Business Bureau. In 10 yers of operations we have had 9 complaints, all resolved.
