My mom has sent me a care package, now I just have to wait until I get it.
I miss homemade cookies, and hersey's chocolate. So that's what is on the way.
Some more of my favorite things are instant tomato or broccoli soup, apple cider mix, and mac and cheese.

So what's in your care package?

Macaroni and cheese is this overprocessed instant noodle stuff in a supposedly cheese sauce. When I worked in a food kitchen for the homeless we would serve it and even the homeless wouldn't eat it.
No offence Naturegirl.
You would love where I live, No 1 supermarket has the stuff and hershey bars and also that cucumber dressing that someone else was on about.
My friend has just come back from Malayasia with 5 jars of vegemite strong black tea and various Indian spices and lentils.
I hope your package arrives safely.
Cheers carol

My care packages include all of the vegan chocolates, cookies, and other assorted treats that I can't find here. My dear ex-boyfriend sent me about a dozen vegan pudding mixes, three different kinds of cookies, and I can't even remember what else. Plus several boxes of my favorite brand of feminine products.

My mom also sends chocolates and sweets, and takes specific requests for shampoos and whatnot, and she is a bit more reliable than my dear ex.

My Mom stopped sending me care packages 20 years ago.

I guess she doesn't love me any more. Sad

Oh no!!!

I guess my mom didn't start loving me until I left the country. I remember almost getting care packages in college, only to get a phone call instead saying something like, "we're sorry, dear. We had a few things for you, but we ate them..."

I can get pretty much any western food I want from the local supermarkets. What I miss are English language novels.

I asked my best friend back in Canada to go to a used bookstore and pick me up some cheap used novels. I sent her a list of authors I like back in December, and she said she'd do it when she had time.

I'm still waiting.... When I go back home, no souvenirs for her!! Evil or Very Mad

I used to shop in Hong Kong, but I find ever more western goodies on the mainland. Currently I am in Kunming, which boasts a huge CARREFOUR that's larger than any I have seen in France.
It has a fine wine section with imported ones from Aussieland and France at prices I could afford (60 to 150), it even has HEINEKEN for RMB 6 a can.
It has its own bakery that churns out baguettes. German rye bread and lots else at unbeatable prices (a baguette for RMB 2.60).
In the dairy section I came across locally-made cowmilk cheese and goat cheese. The yunnan yogurts are wonderfully firm, unlike those you buy in Guangdong that you are supposed to drink.
And coffee from Colombia, Indonesia, Italy at prices not even HK supermarkets can undercut.

My packages from home tend to be holiday specific. I get mom to send halloween makeup and valentines and easter stuff.

I miss baking cookies myself. If someone could send me an oven, I would be in HEAVEN!!!

I feel like I owe my mother a crapload of money for all that she has sent to me. Either that, or I should by stock in Canada Post, since she is single handely paying for their wages. Wink Rolling Eyes Shocked

Yeah, with all the UN folk around here (Kosovo), I can get all the food I need (and some DAMN good Italian food. Gods bless the Italian KFOR and their culinary invasion!).

What I CAN'T get is electronics or software for my Mac. My last care package from home was a FireWire (4-6 pin) cable, iLife '04, and a pack of 3 DV tapes.

My father died 10 years ago, so I don't know how I would take the proverbial care package. Angel food, anyone? Very Happy OTOH, he used to take my brother and I fishing. "You bring poles, I have worms. Hungry?" Shocked
If however my son or daughter were to remember me, I would ask for:
Books, books, and more books. Chess books and poetry especially, but it doesn't really matter, even the ones that I haven't read in 30 years. Just send whatever you can, I'll sort it out here. They're still waiting for me to come home and do it myself.
Coffee, real honest working man's Joe. Should I mention that I was growing up when the first Tim Horton's opened on Ottawa Street?
Wine. I made 2 cases of wine the summer before I left for China, I'd love to be able to open a bottle now.
Basil, orregano, sage, etc. Feta, parmesan; those are available here, although they are prohibitively expensive. I used to bake a creditable lasagna, I can't make anything like it now. I miss Italian food, and I'm certainly not Italian. Or is it the making that I miss?
More however than the tastes and smells of home I miss home itself. The things that you just can't put into a box and ship across 12 time zones. Those will just have to wait for me to find them again. If perchance they have also changed by the time I get back, well what of it?

My last care package from home contained cosmetics that are the same shade of pale as I am. I also got some books, pantyhose that are the right length and bras that are the right size. I had my mom send me some muffin tins, because while I was able to buy an oven in Japan, I haven't been able to find bakeware. Next package, I am getting crystal light (sugarless drink mix) and perhaps a few more books.
