if u add up the salary and benefits of both jobs and take half of the working hours, you might end up with something positive-ish |

Thanks for your reply. But it did not answer my question about which school is better. I have never worked in saudi arabia before and really need some info about the centres. Please don't turn this topic into wether language centres are good or bad. Unfortunately, it is a place to gain some experience for those of us that are less qualified. Until we find something better. |

The point about Saudi is that you don't find something better. You need a no objection certificate from your current employer and the bad employers never give them. Get your experience in another country and then come to Saudi. |

Even some of the 'good' employers as well...as a matter of policy, do not issue LON letters...what generally happens is you leave the country...I believe for at least a year then re apply to another institute.
Do correct me if I am wrong. |

ok, im gonna try to be constructive here
points about the NOC well made
so, if i were u, i would make sure that i go and work for these companies on a VISITOR VISA only, valid for 6 months, with a period of stay of at least one month, and never submit ur passport to the employer
that will give you an opportunity to go to the ksa, sniff around, get a feel for the place without being dependent on ur employer, and slip out whenever u want, without having to get permission from ur employer to work for another one
ur point about qualifications and stuff is good and this way u can get what u want, just dont let these cowboy schools take control over ur whole life and future in the ksa
only go to the ksa on a working visa if u have a reputable employer (in saudi terms of course)
imho |

Dear cmp454,
"what generally happens is you leave the country...I believe for at least a year then re apply to another institute. "
Unless you do the "passport wash", something that at least three teachers I know of did.
But that was about 8 years ago - maybe they've tightened up the system since then.
Regards.

oh yes, and as for your original question that all posters including me seem to have been ignoring, i dont think its gonna make a big difference whether u work for this one or that one
its not gonna be 'heaven or hell'
thats all i can say unless u provide more specific info about their offers |

speaking of NOC, one of the centres mentions in their contract that upon expiration or termination of the contract, I cannot compete with the school in the area of my previous employment for a period of 2 years starting from the date of termination of the contract.
Does this mean I cannot work for any other company for 2 years, even if they terminate the contract? My other concern is, even if a company does not mention this in their contract, who can stop them from refusing to give the NOC to the employee.
desserttraveler, thanks for the info about visitor visa. But I dont think I can take my family with me with a visitor visa. One of the schools is promising to provide my family with a dependent visa at the same time as my work visa. I dont know how the process of dependent visa works, but they said they will take care of it.
Sorry for the long reply. |
