I agree with Paul. In fact at my university I know they prefer hiring foreign teachers who have little or no prior experience in Japan. Perhaps they would be more interesting to students if they only talked about their "home country". |

This is just a quick suggestion on the food issue. I've given up trying to be a veggie, but I don't get on with Japanese food in general. You might want to know of a mail order compnay called Tengu Wholefoods. Their fax number in Japan is 0429824811. They are quite expensive but it's worth it for essentials such as good bread.
As for the thing I miss most: Brussels sprouts.
