You'd get bored sick; even people who spend a dream week on the Maldives come back thinking it was long enough. The standard holiday is a week in Lanka to see the sights, and then a week in the Malidives on the beach.
Two years would drive you crazy. Add to that the fact the country is a one-party Islamic dictatorship with one of the worst human rights records in the region and you've got the perfect mix.
I think you'll soon find yourself taking advantage of the 50% discount on alcoholic drinks. |

Read and thought 'wow' - sounds wonderful.... but wouldn't it just be better to leave as a fantasy? Reckon I too would go a bit potty stuck on an island, but its not such a bad thought.
Would love to hear from whoever ends up applying/taking it! |

I applied for the job last year - well - it was something different after all.
I even got as far as having a phone interview but then was asked if I'd be willing to teach French as well (I studied Business French as part of my degree). Well as most of my French has disappeared to the same place my brain has there wasn't a lot I could say really. Didn't hear anything after that.....
Have applied again this year though - who knows - 2nd time 'lucky'. |

| Perhaps the writers on a different thread should apply for this job. That's why it'd appeal to me. Time to write. |

Nobody mentioned this line:
"You will be responsible for the development of English Skills in our 300 staff, commencing for spoken English but also focusing on reading and writing skills in some levels of the organization."
Wow, 300 students, I can't wait! |

Dear grahamb,
"No-one's paid to sunbathe or ogle."
I see you've never been a lifeguard.

| I was a lifeguard for three summers, there's more to it and besides most of the people at the pool weren't worth oggling. |

Dear naturegirl,
Once in a galaxy far, far away (down on Cape Cod, actually), I, to, was a lifeguard. Admittedly, there IS more to it (though that "more" is seldom - if you're lucky - employed). And most people everywhere - not only at the pool - aren't worth ogling, but that's especially true when they have a lot of their clothes off.
Regards,
John |

John, you've been a marine, an EFL teacher, a lifeguard and now a state trooper. What other jobs have you done?
I can't imagine anyone wanting to peel off in Cape Cod: the near-Arctic temperatures would surely cause any exposed flesh to shrivel up!
As a non-swimmer I avoid swimming pools and beaches like the plague. Unless of course there's a bar and a chess set available.
All the best!
Graham. |

Dear Graham,
What other jobs? Mama mia - LOTS. When I got out of the Marines, I bummed around for about 5 years before going back to university, Here's a partial list:
1. icehouse worker
2. private postal system mail delivery (the WORST job, bar none)
3. department store cleaner
4. department store salesman
5. short-order cook
6. taxi driver
7. security guard
8. bartender
9. house painter
10 construction worker
Well, there might be a few more, but those are the ones that come to mind. As you probably can see, none of them lasted all that long - for various reasons - and almost all of them didn't pay much. But most of them were - "interesting", in one way or another.
The Cape in the summer isn't too bad - the water's usually at least slightly above freezing (well to tell the truth, it's often quite tolerable). Besides, I didn't have to actually go IN the water all that often, thank God.
Regards,
John |

Dear John,
The icehouse job sounds cool.
"private postal system mail delivery (the WORST job, bar none) "
It must have been hell without a bar.
Is a short order cook someone who gives customers less than they order?
Were you ever tempted to sing "YMCA" when you were on site?
All the best!
Graham. |
