Has anyone heard anything about the American University in the Emirates? They are posting on <chronicle.com>. |

Aren't there 2 American Universities in the UAE? One in Dubai and one in Sharjah? Which one is posting?

I have never heard of AUE, but I see the ad you're referencing.
AUE is an innovative institution licensed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the United Arab Emirates.
AUE is located at Dubai International Academic City.
I have also never heard of the University of Dubai. |

Neither of these it appears... it's another new place.
I just googled this up:
http://www.aue.ae/
Here is a scary page because it seems like they are hiring... every level!! Nothing like a new place to tax your patience:
http://www.aue.ae/faculty.asp
Like most places in the Gulf, it seems to take it applications through the website. Buyer beware as with every new place...
VS
(PS... MM... AUDubai has been around for a few years, but they don't seem to hire many native speakers from the US) |

These places are popping up everywhere...how we'll keep the names straight is beyond me. |

While I was in RAK (2005-2007) there was a castle on a hill with fancy gate and fancy sign that said British University. The building never became a university, however, and eventually the sign came down. |

I think Globalnomad2 is close to the truth of it.
The 'British University' in RAK used to appear on a website, universitieslink.com. Also there were 'American University of the UAE' ,
'American University of RAK', and other dubious educational entities.
Wild claims were made about being 'accredited' and 'licenced'. There was also a false claim about being a recognised IELTS center.
That site has recently ceased to operate, just as new sites appear for
AU Emirates and AU RAK. Check them out. But I will not be surprised if
it turns out to be the old crowd of shoddy, shonky operators who work through and out of Ras Al Khaimah. No names are given of present faculty and staff, cause for suspicion in itself.
The usual rule appies--approach with extreme caution! |
