What are they actually checking for. Are they checking for Labor Bans or previous bad history with residence visa or something else again.

Mine seems to be taking a while, I am getting paranoid.

Yes, I believe UAE employers check labor bans, potential issues with immigration, that sort of thing. It does take a long while sometimes so don't freak out Very Happy

I understood that it was not the employers, but the UAE government that requires and does the security check and clearance - part of the residence/work visa process.

I don't know but HCT tell me they can't go any further until they get my security clearance back. So it does sort of sound like someone besides HCT are processing it.

It is done by a government agency. They check for bans/any outstanding complaints etc. - and it can take a long time. The last time I went through it it took nearly 6 weeks. However, if the college has a good "fixer" it may be hurried along.

They are probably checking to see if you are freemason or a known agent of the Zionists.

Hee Hee, That's what I wondered! What is actually wicked? I remember on the form I ended up putting christian because I thought 'other' might be seen as suspect.
I worked for another company in UAE last year so I am a little concerned but a labor card or residence visa was never given to me. So if I get this clearance I can breathe a sigh of relief nothing is wrong with labor or residency visas.

They are just checking to ensure that you're not smart enough to see through all the ploys and antics.......

They still get scammed. At least one person working at HCT does not actually have the qualifications he says he has. He scammed a place in Saudi and has scammed them here. One of my friends worked with him there and said he was able to pull it off for about 4 years but then got into trouble with the morality police. I wonder when they will cotton on. Smart operator. They've got it coming, if they can't tell the genuine article from the fake. They don't appreciate the genuine articles anyway.

What does the security clearance check for exactly? Do they check for every little misdemeanor you've had from years back?

Nobody, probably including them, can tell you what they look for 'exactly.'

The security check doesn't check your academic credentials (but neither does the Ministry required "certification" of your education certificates - which is only confirmed if they actually go directly to the institutions).

It is mainly looking for glaring problems in other Gulf countries and perhaps other countries that your CV claims that you have lived or worked. I doubt they would catch small misdemeanors from the distant past. The people that I know that have failed the security check were for run-ins with either the law in another Gulf country or with a powerful ex-employer. I know one that got banned gulf-wide for things that the person had written for publication back home.

I understood that since 2005, the UAE Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has been checking the academic credentials of all international job applicants via an organization called IntegraScreen, and that this eliminates the previously required degree attestation procedures.
