Thanks for all the information Justin - interesting...
As to the question of pilots having set routes: they probably do, but I was once on the flight deck of a BA 747 landing at Vancouver. The long haul pilots for BA tend to go all over and this particular crew didn't know Vancouver. Landing was fine using ILS, but once on the ground there was a speedy look in Pooleys to get an idea of where they then had to go to get to the stand!
Perhaps it was just my impression that international pilots in Europe tend to speak English, certainly I've no evidence for it, but maybe the ability comes with their general level of education (although I have met the odd stupid one).. |
