|
|
Greetings fellow teachers!
I am looking for work in Jordan and I cannot seem to find any English school there? Anyone have any Ideas? I will be moving there for another job in September but I do not want to stop teaching! Any advice on schools and such in the area?
Thanks you all in advance!! |

Go to the University of Jordan in Amman, about 5km from the centre of town. There might be a possibility there, if not they will point you in the right direction. You can also study Arabic there.

Maybe you should take some grammar and punctuation classes before you start. |

The "Sheikh", as usual, displays his inherently fascist nature. After all who but a reactionary neo-fascist of the most gruesome type would expect an English teacher to understand Grammar and Punctuation.
I have reported this to the Civil Liberties Union. |

I may well be a neo-fascist but I doubt that grammar and punctuation have to be written with capital letters. I may be wrong. Scotty will tell us. |

Dear Sheikh,
Perhaps Scot47 harkens back to an earlier Form of English, that of the eighteenth Century, when, among the educated Classes, most, or even all, Nouns were routinely capitalized.

Indeed. And the sheikh should make himself cognizant with that Literary Device known to the specialist as IRONY.
A poster with a sharper wit would have realised that I was supporting him ! |

If you do a search (button above), you will find that there has been little discussion of jobs in Jordan because there are not many. I don't believe that I have ever seen an advert for one. You might try the AMIDEAST website... don't know if there is a British Council branch there.

There was ... when I was there 3 years ago and .... a very nice place it was. Very nice and quiet location. Good people, too. I can't think of any reason why it should not still be operating so ....... .
Best

If you're a qualifed classroom teacher head to the International Community School (currently hiring both classroom teachers and TEFL), International Academy Amman, and American Community School.
If you're TEFL then lots of local schools will still hire you as an English teacher or a primary classroom teacher if you're a native speaker. Try Modern American School , CMS and Amman Academy (not to be confused with IAA above). Also Berlitz, American Language Centre, British Council and the Jordan University. Unfortunately, everything mentioned in this paragraph tends to be low paying. You're looking at 400-800JD per month, possibly more at British council. |
