Several months ago, I started a thread about where to travel in Japan, etc. Well, I am on that trip at the moment.
Due to time constraints, I basically went to:
Kanazawa: Very nicely structured city. Convenient to get around. There is a really cool Turkish guy who owns a kebab restaurant in the main area of the city, and himself and a few of his staff brought me to a very cool live music blues bar...with some great musicians...and this was on a Sunday night...ended up out until 5am...which really surprised me.
Osaka: Interesting to note there are hotels in this city for 2500 yen a night! Kind of skid row location, but only two stations from Namba Station where all the excitement is at. Even Skid Row in Osaka feels real comfortable compared to Skid Row anywhere else in the world
Kobe: Interesting place...I had been wanting to see it for some time. It looks very liveable, and great location to get to Osaka. I also found a pretty cool beach south of Kobe. I am sure there are many interesting beaches all over Japan, but this one had a 'Spring Break' atmosphere that was interesting. Supposedly its really only good for one month. The bars and restaurants all setup there close on September 1st apparently.
Beppu: I am in Beppu now. Great onsen town, although I soaked so much yesterday, I swear by body cells smell a bit like sulphur! Relaxing place though, and quite a few international tourists everywhere, more than anywhere else I've seen, most of them Europeans. I think many would be surprised there is a hostel here for 1500 yen/night, although I am over in another one that is still only 2500/night.
I will head over to Fukuoka next... |
