				| Nonetheless, I stand by my previous comment, having taught at tertiary insitutions in the UAE for nine years. The question of student censorship, even to the point of getting people fired, certainly exists and to some of us is not a trivial or uninteresting matter. Just how many western novels should be tossed in the bin? Or if a western university in the UAE has a full psychology department, should they delete all the courses on human sexuality that are offered at the home campus? Yale was quite right--just show some integrity and forget about setting up a Middle East campus in the first place. Meanwhile, if local women students are offended by aspects of a western education, they can apply to HCT where all is sanitized to their liking. |
