Ok I realise this topic has been covered in the past but with all the visa changes of late was wondering how things stand at the moment. At what stage of the whole visa process do you do the medical. Is that before you enter the country to get your FEC, or after you are in China?
I have no problem doing it wherever, just don't want to waste my time and money doing it at home only to find a have to do it again in China.
Cheers.

MOD EDIT
The school will issue you an invitation letter; you will obtain a Z visa; you will enter China; at that point, or soon thereafter you will be taken for a medical exam; if you pass the exam, your papers will be submitted to the PSB for a residence permit; if you fail (and that could happen), you will have to exit the country within the 30 days of your Z visa.

Requirements change based on your country of origin (and/or your nationality)
In America, still, as far as every report I have heard, a medical is NOT a requirement to get your z-visa.

A medical is required of EVERYONE after they get to CHina, unless they have paid for notarizing every medical document, and even then you will still probably be asked to do a medical after arriving in CHina. In Henan you would because they are now computerizing it all, and issuing a medical certificate similar to the FEC

The reason I ask is because my school is telling me that the medical check must be done before the issuance of the z visa. So is that true and if so how do I get my school to recognise that this is not necessary?

The reason for this is a few schools have been burned wasting time hiring foreigners to find out they cannot pass the medical due to some problem.

Now the schools want the potential teacher to run the hoops before they will initiate any more time on the paperwork.

if the medical exam shows no problems they will complete the next steps of the paperwork.

However, it is not uncommon to do ANOTHER medical check here in China.

My suggestion is look for another school.

You should ask them whether they need your medical report to get your Resident's Permit in China; normally the medical is needed to either obtain the work visa, or, if you are in country, the RP. But if the Consulate grants you a work visa with or without the medical then that should settle it then and there. In some cases you will have to take a new examination in China because they don't trrust official documents issued in other (not necessarily foreign) jurisdictions.

Get your work visa (and ask the Consulate if you need a medical to get the visa), then see what they want or need in China.

In nearly all cases, contrary to what this poster writes, you will be sent for another medical upon arrival in China. It is just how it is..and how it has been. I only know of very, very few instances in which this has been avoided.

And for both Eddy-Cool, and the OP, who are new on this Board, have either of you read this sticky at the top of this forum? It might answer some of your questions.

If you are applying for your visa from within SE Asia, you will be required to do a very comprehensive medical BEFORE you can apply for the z visa at the local consulate. In this part of the world you MUST hand in the full medical results with the Z visa application - whatever your citizenship...

That's true. But often when you arrive in China they also ask you to do a new medical examination. If you push, they usually allow you to only repeat the blood work. Perhaps it's because of the fees they generate.

This is simply restating what has been said again and again again on this Board. I would encourage all to read the thread on this subject at the near-top of the Job-Related Posts Only rubric.

Actually, it's not. You were negligent in your misinformation about having a complete, new medical examination done when, in fact, they usually ony care about repeating the blood work. MOD EDIT

Of course, when you don't know WTF you are talking about it's usual to try and baffle people with making broad, sweeping claims.

"They" do not only care about doing the blood work. They will redo the entire physical examination in almost all cases, particularly over the course of the next several months.

I will not comment on your guard-dog approach to my posts. Nonetheless, I refer you once again to the thread at the beginning of this rubric concerning medical examinations.

MOD EDIT
If you have a medical examination from abroad when you arrive in China and you object to an entire new physical, they will usually only insist you re-do the blood work.

Take the cheapest medical you can in your home country and do the standard medical here to get your resident visa. If you think you might have something wrong with your blood then check it out. In Korea for instance you can be thrown out for drug usage from drugs that still show up in your blood for weeks after having been taken if they test for drugs.

The Medical here costs from about 200 RMB to 300 RMB mainly and then upwards depending upon where you are in China. It has to be done at an approved medical centre and as far as I know any main base hospital for a city falls into this category. So say $50 US roughly shouldn't brake anyone much.

The blood test is the main thing they worry about that much I know, but yes they want a full medical done, which you can get the form off the Net with a search.

Some people who think it is ok to antagonize other members of the forums are soon to find themselves no longer welcome to participate on the forums if they do not conduct themselves in a better way.
