I exaggerated. 24,000B is about 70,000 in BKK. Not to mention all the distractions and temptations BKK has to offer. For rayman, a married man, it isn't the same except for the restaurants maybe. It's more expensive here than rayman might think. Even if he is judging the economy by last month's standards, it's 20% higher. The price of petro is killing us. It affects everything. The price of rice is up 30%. Restaurants are mostly barren. People drive to and from work as ever but traffic after peek hours is almost nil.

It's difficult in this town to find a meal over 120B. I BKK that meal would be 400B, with better decor of course. I live in a free-standing home with all the conveniences for 3500B. In BKK about 12-15,000B

There are loads of teachers here who have teacher's certificates. At one EP about 10 of the thirteen have them. They earn 30-32,000. The teachers without certificates earn the same. They all have teaching experience.

I belong to four teacher's forums. MOD EDIT I'd take Thai primaries over western primaries any day. And if you can live in a safer, more comfortable, cleaner environment BKK makes no sense to me, but it does to ray. Rock on ray!

I'm curious about the access to health you'd have living in a Thai village. As I said, I believe it's all good, temporarily living below minimum wage. But to do it long term, is not wise in my opinion.

Living in nature is great. But, if you can't afford to pay your emergency hospital bill (or worse, that of your wife or children), then I don't see the point. Likewise, if the only decent hospital is a flight away, it leads to some concern. Clean air only tastes good when you're breathing. I ask kidefl in a sincere manner, is that something which concerns you, given you must be in a later stage of life?

The two most important things for my wife, children and myself, is education and health. It's no argument, in general, the best facilities for those two things are in the city. As said, if you're smart, you can work your life around the negatives of any big city.

What you do works for you kidefl. That's nice. But I give you my version, because I argue it doesn't work for most. Some can be at peace and content living in the city. Likewise, others can be aggressive and bitter living in more isolated areas. I think we've seen some good examples of each.
