Morning all,
Quick question: What is the standard arrangement for travel costs to and from Indonesia? Is there one? I am under the assumption that a return airfare from your home city is reimbursed upon completion of a contract, is this correct?
Is there anything to watch out for with this?
Cheers,

There is no universal standard. Some (very good) schools will refund the airfare with the first paycheck. Others will refund half on arrival and half later. Some will hold back until the end of the contract.
Main risk in the past was some unscrupulous 'schools' that would concoct a reason to terminate the contract after 11 months and avoid paying the airfare - and any end-of-contract bonus. Such scheisters are mercifully rare, but it has happened before. |

Usually you have to give them a number of airfares from different airfares, so they can tell you are serious about finding the best/cheapest one. If you're coming from Perth, that would be Garuda, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, perhaps also Air Asia if you're desperate.
In my first job at EF, I got half of it back after passing probation, then the remainder at the end of the contract.
NB You should specify in your contract if you're to be reimbursed in Rp or $ because you can win or get screwed by the fluctuation of the currency. For example, when I arrived in Indonesia in March 2004 $A1 = Rp6200, but a year later it was Rp7400 and I made an equivalent loss of over $100. More recently it's been as low as Rp9000, but is now less than Rp8000 again. |

My last place book the flight and arrange it themselves.....However, its been 3 months since i left, and i still don't have the ticket. I've seen the schedule, but the boss is always conveniently out-of-town when it requires her signature.
Any suggestions? How long is it reasonable to wait? The flight is booked for December by the way.
Cheers. |
