I'm thinking of teaching in Saudi again. Is it too late to apply to PMU, KSU or KFUPM? Which one pays best? How long does it take to get a visa? Do I have to go back home to get one?

mistral, the train of the magic kingdom has left! Laughing
Try next year, probably you will be lucky and get an offer after 9 months, and the visa after 12 months!
Good luck.

Too late. Most of the information you want is here if you can be bothered to dig it out.

Some employers will let you process in any country where you are LEGALLY resident. Others insist that you return to the country of which you are a citizen.

In KSA string comes in different lengths.

as far as i know, KSU pay best and its easy to land a job coz they seem to be desperate for teachers, but by what ive heard, there is a reason why they pay well... but if ur also desperate, i think you can get a job with them fairly easily

btw the payscale is 12k to 14k, no guarantee that u will b offered 13k

u get 10% transport allowance on top of that

if u need money, i think its ok, but if u need anything else on top of money, ANYTHING, forget it

So KSU is a bit like those "international schools" in Jeddah and Riyadh.

Suddenly one week before term begins they realise that they do not have any teachers so they hurriedly advertise in the local papers :"Teachers Urgently Wanted"

If they cannot plan this fairly predictable need, what is the rest of their administration like ?

Those contemplating KSU should have a look at the website - especially the page with photographs of those teaching there.

What places pay the best summer rates?

Would summer work at BAE, Raytheon or Aramco be possible?

No ! You MIGHT find summer work somewhere but this would be moonlighting and ILLEGAL. Certainly NOT at BAE or Raytheon.

Surely it's possible to work rather than take the Summer vacation?

Employees of Company A may not work for Company B without permission.
BAe does not employ part-timers who are sponsored by another employer.

Many employers insist that you take vacation at times convenient to them - not convenient to you ! (eg Ramadan)

I thought the Summer holidays started at the end of June and the new term begins during October.

Schools, colleges and universities have that school year. BAe and other military outfits do it differently.

Some universities might recruit you to start in February 2009. There is a price to pay for that though. Your salary over the summer would be "prorated". That is Usanian Managerspeak for "paid at a lesser rate"
