Let's say " Your ESL teaching life" I'm here now! I started in 1990 in South Korea. I currently have a two year contract. The world will be a different place I think in two years so I'll think about my next move then but I'll stay put if possible.

Australia offers nothing to someone my age. Sure I can pull a job and lead a boring life. I chose ESL back in 1990 and I've had an interesting time since.

The person who works like a dog all year just for a short holiday at the end is a fool. A person that works like a dog and saves his whole life for when he gets old is a fool. It is better to enjoy life while you can and from week to week. Watch what happens now in the West as most will loose all they have and end up in the street.

I study fish larvae feeding and have a degree in fish farming so if I can't find work in ESL then I can probally support myself by working on a fish farm somewhere.

Well if this is what the future holds in store, then whether it be Shanghai or Beijing, I think the value of learning English will be on the wane - and we'll all be looking out for those fish-farming type alternatives.

English has become the international language and as such it will not disappear overnight. One only needs one job and provided one is prepared to take a drop in living standard then there will probably be a few jobs left.

As I said the big money has already disappeared from Shanghai in the main. Russia's share market is crashing faster than the US market. Big unemployment precedes a big war.

Even grimmer prospects - with this news at hand - where do you think the best place to teach during a nuclear fall-out will be - Beijing or Shanghai.

In which of these cities can I buy the cheapest canned food and bottled water??????
