Some have got their schedules packed prior to holidays. Not that we work too hard, but our contractual agreements cover a section with weekly working hours. Mine's got 18, although this preholiday week I am getting close to 25 hours.

I understand that working on this weekend makes it up for the full week off coming up right after, but isn't that a breach of contract on the part of the employer Confused

Cheers and beers to working continuously for half a life and then taking the rest of it off Wink

Same here.

The worst is that I teach two good classes. We are finishing their math this week. Today we reviewed a little by having a competition on math questions. I was ready to do the final today or tomorrow. This is exactly what I had written on the course syllabus they insisted I make .
All the teachers are really done the work with these two classes.
I was told I could not give the test, the math test must be this sunday afternoon for both classes. I was told students were complaining because I told them I didn't know if we would have classes on the weekend. Strange, because when I told them the tests would be on Sunday, not Wednesday or thursday, they all groaned deeply.
Oh well!

I always hated that....but it seems to be standard everywhere doesnt it? Heres your holiday, but you have to work a weekend before in order to get the time off.

Imagine being a student? At least we normally only work part time hours...

I never complained to my school though....after all, I always did OK during sports days (3 days no lessons) and any other nonsense meeting or activity...as English lessons would be cancelled. Had a few days off for typhoon warnings too!

My school just revised my schedule to say I DON'T have to work this weekend because they made a mistake with the scheduling. I said well that's certainly ok with me.

As I was walking out the door they told me I had to make these two classes up in the future. And I had to pick the times and days. Now I have no access to their whole class schedule - just my classes.

So I said no problem we can do them both on February 29 and made a quick exit.

My school seems to be going to have five days off from Tuesday but they still haven't got it set. It is to our advantage as it gives five days off in a row that is why the Chinese staff like it. They normally only get one day a week off.

My school are giving tomorrow off but having staff work two Sundays so I end up with four days off but the Chinese teachers get five. So is life.
Oh, the roster came out yesterday afternoon at 4:30.

I fail to see anything unfair in this arrangement; surely nobody is going to work harder than they worked before this holiday compensation scheme came into force?

The only anomaly I can detect is: Only SOME of our students have to make up classes - i.e. it's the Monday and Tuesday classes. None of my other clases has to be made up; incidentally I had no classes last week on Tuesday (which is going to change)(, so I only have to make up two Monday classes.

The eternal conundrum: Friday and Saturday were scheduled for "sports meet" - - all classes canceled. I was to be there Friday morning for the opening ceremonies, then I had the rest of the two days off. Sunday is to be a half day only (really, only one class for me) and then 7 glorious vacation days.

Friday morning it's raining - - sports meeting canceled! Regular classes today and tomorrow! Grrrr! Stupid rain. But I had an afternoon plan already so I changed classes around so I could teach mine in the morning. No problem there - - wait! The sports meet is back on - - the rain has cleared up! Grrrr! Fine, whatever, I've done my duty - I'm outta here. Tomorrow, rain or shine, I'm not showing up and I'm not answering my phone! I'll see them on Sunday.

Yesterday, 26/9, I finished a two week (48 hour) remedial English program for the incomming freshmen. I don't have to go back to work until 6 October when the fall semester actually begins.
