|
|
hi All, I am currently in the States and will be heading to KSA before the end of this month. I just broke my eye glasses (currently putting on contact lenses) and would like to find out if the price of eye glasses is cheaper in KSA than USA.
Thanks |

Depends on the specification. For mine I paid around 500 SR. If it is a simple specification you can buy over the counter without visiting an optometrist. 20 SR for them. (15SR = US$4) |

Everywhere in the world is cheaper than the US for glasses or anything related to 'doctors.'
Bring your prescription... or the broken glasses and as long as it is not the lenses that are broken, they can replicate them.

The cost varies according to the specification. The optician will test you. My last pair cost nearly 900SR but they are titanium-framed, self-darkening, bifocals, so think of that as top of the range unless you want to waste money on designer frames.

You've evidently never lived in the UK |

Try Al Maghrabi Eye & Ear Center, which is one of the best eye clinics in the ME, and its prices are reasonable, especially for high index lenses. |

In general, I have found the cost of eyeglasses and contacts to be considerably cheaper in KSA than in the USA. The only problem is the temptation to buy expensive designer frames. There is a much wider selection of frames in KSA, and some of them are quite expensive. However, they are also gorgeous, and you will be tempted to spend more than you normally would on glasses. |

I just got new lenses for existing frames from the optician in Azizia Panda in Khobar (Al-Nada Optician)
One pair reactolite - high specification, distance.
Two pairs reading glasses (One for home and one for office)
Total was 650 SR. No charge for test.
(Rate of exchange is US$4=SR15)
Seems okay to me. |

And about two weeks later I had to see an Ophthalmologist and get a new prescription !
My amended advice ? For an eye-test go to an Ophthalmologist. I went to Al Fakhry Hospital in Khobar and consulted Dr Shaheen. I paid the first 30 SR and the Insurance picked up the rest of the tab.

What's the cost of dentistry in the KSA?
For example, teeth whitening and a brace. |

Cheaper than in the UKofGB&NI that is for sure. Even at Saad which is expensive traetment is cheaper than in Ripoff Britain.
I go to a Syrian dentist based in a clinic behind the Holiday In on the Road from Khobar to Dammam.
I cannot quote a price for whitening and a brace. IO cannot even quote the price I paid for root canal treatrment.
Your obsession with price indicates that you are a candidate for the Fellowship of Five Hnndred. |

Everything is relative. Here in the RoI most people who need extensive dental treatment take the train across the 'border' to take advantage of the less horrendously expensive dentists in Belfast or Newry. Even taking transport costs into costs, it is possible to save hundreds of Euros this way. |

Teeth whitening is a standard SR. 1,000 in most dental clinics.
For braces, I don't know how much it would cost for a one-off visit, but I did ask some of my high school students in the past, and they said the cost ran into the SR 10,000-15,000 range over the 3 years or so it took them to get their teeth aligned. Of course, it depends on how crooked your teeth are. If they could be corrected in a year, it would obviously cost much less. |

I'm thinking Laurence Olivier in Marathon Man. |
