Hi,

I'm writing because recently I got offered a one-off translation job to translate a press release from Spanish to English. I ended up taking the job and getting 140 euros in total for a 7 page press release, but I was wondering A) is this a fair price for the translation? It had medical and business terms, etc. B) what is the normal/market rate for Spanish-to-English translation work?

Also, what are most Americans/Canadians/Non-EU Passport holder's getting per hour for English tutoring? The middleman I work for is going to give me more translation work (which pays better than the tutoring work) but is only giving me 12 to 14 euros per hour for tutoring classes. I'm thinking I can probably make more on my own as far as private classes go, but I'm tempted to stay with this agency because of the translation work. Last year this agency paid me 15, so I'm kind of miffed that suddenly they want to offer me less money for more difficult lessons (preparing students for the First Certificate). Are other under-the-table tutors experiencing a similar reduction in what they've been earning due to the down turn in the economy?
