It all depends on the traffic. One and a half to two and a half hours.

And you can be held up if someone has dodgy papers. If it is a Pakistani or other TCN, they just leave him behind, but if there is a Saudi or GCC National with questionable papers, you can be held up for an hour or more.

But the bus is usually okay. 50 Saudi Riyals - a bargain. A taxi will charge from 250 to 300 SR

sweet thanks for the info. quick question. is it easy/convenient to get around by public transportation? it seems like everyone over there owns cars or other forms of private transport. i'm not too big on driving (always lived in a big city) so i was wondering if it was possible, or just too much of a hassle to not have one.

Dhahran/Dammam/Khobar is not as good as Jeddah where there is an adequate if slow system of public transport. I live in Dhahran and, together with a large number of colleagues, manage quite well without a car. Taxis mainly.

How many times in the week do you want to go to the Shopping Mall ? Where else is there to go ?

And a tip for gochubandit - do not bring Korean Won in ANY shape or form !

i was a bit worried about adapting to the lifestyle, but it SEEMS the khobar dammam dhahran area has everything i need, in terms of necessities. but i bet i probably need a trip out to bahrain every so often to keep myself from going haywire. KSA can be a bit like cabin fever, i'm assuming.

thanks for the tip though. if i head out that way, i'll definitely make note of it.

I'd like to make a trip across the causeway from Bahrain to the Saudi border.

I've checked out taxi costs, which begin at BD 30 upwards, one-way.

BD 60 is a bit expensive, for me atleast!

Where can I board a bus in Bahrain? I live near the Diplomatic Area.

A quick reply will be appreciated, as I am scheduled to leave for Cairo shortly.

Regards,

Lall.

Saudi-Bahraini Public Transport Co. have an office in the car park and bus station at the Lulu Mall. 5BD or 50SR one way. You can also inquire here about buses from Saudi to Amman, Damascus and beyond. (Maybe even Cairo !)
