What kind of job? Uni? How much could one save (in Euros) a month? I know Korea is best for saving money, so where does Taiwan rank up there and what are the differences in behaviour and culture between Korea and Taiwan? |

Dear Deicide ,
Well, if you are able to kill God (or gods), then you surely believe in Him/them.
As for your question, forget about universities. I can list 20 reasons, but I don't have time now.
Taiwan only has about 5 decent cities, so just pick one out. If you work your butt off, you can earn well over $2000 USD per month. You should be able to save over $1000 USD per month if you avoid night clubs, wild women and electronics stores.
Taiwanese people are less arrogant than Koreans overall. Taiwan sort of has an identity crisis, due to political reasons--whereas Koreans think all civilization started with them.
Looking forward to hearing from others...

I've met people who worked in Korea who are working here now.
I am getting the impression that Korea isn't much better than Taiwan, in terms of pay. Free accomadation is standard, maybe a couple or three hundred a month more, but I haven't met anyone with a good experience there yet, out of maybe five former Korean teachers I have spent time with. My school here paid for my plane ticket, too.
However, I seem to have lucked out a bit as some of the people I know here in Taiwan are working for crappy crappy employers (Initials: USEG), whereas I'm working less than a thirty hour week (incl planning and grading) and making plenty of cash...
Anybody here have any opinions of the Chinese mainland? The Unis pay crap, but what about other places?

Taiwan is NOT a place you go to TEFL for money.
Try Japan, Korea or U.A.E.
I even hear Vietnam and China are offering more lucrative contracts these days. |

Well you will probably still save more than you would back home. If you want to work six days a week you can still save $1500 a month. Furthermore it really just depends how much you work and drink. |

I hear ya. That's something to consider also - lifestyle. I'm not into the party atmosphere and when I drink, it's mainly from 7-11 where the beers are cheap. However, if people want to go to the TGIF lunch/dinners and western bars then it's a lot of cash. eat local - mien shops - and drink from the convenience stores / in parks, and you can save a ton of dough. |

I don't think you need to eat mian. You can eat something normal for 120-150 and still save money. |
