I have yet another question...any hospitals in Mangaf or near Mangaf? I found a directory of hospitals but when I called them no one answered. We have little ones and just want to know what to do in case of an emergency.
Thanks in advance

I had physiotherapy at the Adan hospital (a few miles from Mangaf) and was pleased with the treatment. There are probably hospitals in Fahaheel and Ahmadi, as well. Miski will know.
Regards
SR

I found medical care in Kuwait to be superior to what I had access to in the United States. Quality medical care is one of few true advantages to living in Kuwait. However, as you noticed it is usually a completely pointless exercise to try get information over the phone in Kuwait.

Generally one or some combination of these three things happens when you try calling: either no one answers, you are transferred endlessly from person to person, or you are given outdated or incorrect information. I found it best to just go in person or get a local to take care of it.

To answer your question: Yes, there are loads of quality hospitals within 30 mins of Mangaf. Don't worry about it. Honestly though you should be directing these questions at your employer or coworkers. They'll know best really given your particular living situation.

Behind Mangaf, on the other side of the motorway/freeway/expressway /30 is the public hospital,Adan. Not very nice inside, very Bedu, but actually not a bad hospital- good dental dept.

About 3 miles north of Mangaf, up the coast road in Fintas, opposite Egaila Beach is The London Hospital- a private hospital. Remember that for the past few days it has been a public holiday and even the private HOSPITALS will not answer phones. All should be back to normal on Saturday.

I always take my kids to the International Clinic in Salmiys, next to Gulf English School to a great doctor called Dr Haffez ( Syrian or Egyptian but trained in Sweden ).

Once you get your civil ID card, you can take the kids to the local clinic where you will get padadol etc free. Also any vaccinations needed are free ( measles, BCG etc ).

to the hanged man - where the hell are you from in the USA? West virginia????? Yikes, your comments about the quality of care are biazzare.
Board certification as it is known in the uSA and certification by the royal boards in the UK DOES NOT exist in kuwait. private hospitals MOST of the time have the better qualified, trained and expereinced doctors - however saying that there are some exceptions
premmie babies have only one good place to go - a govt hospital
likewise cancer patients

for the flu, minor dental work and emergencies go to a govt facility
if it is an emergency, go first to the govt hospital closet to your residence
i take my kids to the children's dentist in salmiya - govt run - be there earlier or wait, wait, wait

and yes, hanged man in right, it's time to make friends with your co-workers instead of virtual friends on dave's

Incomprehensible! What on earth does ''biazarre'' mean? And the ''Royal Boards'' in the UK? 15 years in Kuwait is too long! You're bonkers, buddy!

Sheikh Radlinrol,

I think 15years in Q8 was referring to the British Royal Colleges of Medicine.

There are currently 18 of these, in such areas as Anaesthetics, General Practitioners, Obstetricians/Gynaecologists, Opthalmologists, Paediatrics, Pathologists, Pathologists, Psychiatrists, Surgeons. Any doctor (from any country) worth his weight ,seeks to gain admission by an extremely demanding exam to one or more of these colleges.

This indicates the standards of training, and having the initials R.C.S (Royal College of Surgeons) or similar after one's name is highly prized. When searching for a doctor overseas, look for this accreditation, as it really indicates a rigorous selection.

Ha, I can tell you never tried to get proper health care on the craptastic insurance most public schools provide for their teachers in the US. I used to work in south Texas and I knew several teachers with large families who took their kids to Mexico (for dental work in particular) because they couldn't afford to get it done in America. Health costs have skyrocketed in the US in the past 15 years and employers have been cutting way back on benefits. Health care in Kuwait is actually pretty darn good especially at the private international clinics.
