I'd like to get a job in Abu Dabi. Is there an age limitation? I am 63. |

According to the Labo(u)r laws, you can only be hired on a year-to-year contract after age 60 rather than the standard 2/3 year contracts. This is not to say, "No", but my feeling is is that, IF you're already working here under the age of 60, then the employer is allowed under the law to keep you on after 60 if your are that valuable to them on a year-to-year basis.
Anyone who disagrees, feel free to step in...
That being said, I know of at least one 60+-er (Christ! He looks like a 60+-er!) who was brought over, but he had recently "retired" from here, but was a known commodity.
Good luck!

I completely agree with my frere NCTBA.
According to UAE labour law, you should not be less than 18 years old and not more than 60 years.
But if your employer needs you, the age limit can be extended to 65 years, but with the approval of the Minister of Labour. The labour contract, labour card and residency visa will be valid only for one year and has to be renewed. |

If the OP is asking about teaching jobs at the tertiary level, those institutions (ZU, UAEU, HCT, ECAE. etc.) are not subject to UAE labor laws, but rather to their own by-laws which can be somewhat flexible if need be.

McS: Are you sure of this? Why would federal institutions not be covered by federal labor laws? What exactly is your source? Not that I'm argueing, as it would answer a few things that I've alluded to in my previous post, but it sounds strange to me that federal institutions who employ federal employees would be exempt for the federal labor laws!
The good news would be that I might not have to retire as early!

yes, 100% sure. Source is HR at these institutions and particularly HCT HR website. I posted the link back in the spring... will look for it and post it again if I find it.

MrScaramanga is correct. I work with several people who have had three year contracts when over 60 or in their 60th year. HCT, etc. is not restricted by the labour laws. Closer to 70 or 70+, there are one year contracts dependent of the annual health check although this also depends what you teach. |

Afra, is that strictly for teachers, or does that also cover administrative positions at these colleges? |

That would be page 7 of the pdf version, or page 4 according to the table of contents.

Golden, MrS, golden. Thank you. Upon reflection, federal laws applying to federal employees would be way too logical for a Gulf locale!

If you move up the Gulf a bit you could be luckier. I know people in their seventies still teaching in KSA.
Nice to be in a society where wrinkly greybeards get some respect ! Of course it helps if you are a "Khawaja". |

Dear Scotty! I make almost USD 19,000 here in the Marshall Islands. How would it be possible for me to make more at the "game"? 19 Grand less US taxes..."Top of the World, Ma, Top of the World!

What is the timeframe for earning 19 Grand? A fortnight? A month? I am just wondering about the timeframe for earnings at the "top of the heap".
What is going on in the Marshalls in regard to healthcare and social life? Costs of eating out? Or is eating out a DIY excursion? |
