Does anyone know if there is some good class 3-4 whitewater to be found within a 3 hours drive of Guadalajara ? I have heard rumor that the Rio Grande de Santiago, the canyon of which skirts the northern Guadalajara suburbs , offers some fun paddling. But I can't find any reliable info on this. Looking at a map of Jalisco, it appears to have lots of rivers running thru mountainous terrain. But I can't find any solid info about anyone having run these streams. The canyon of the Rio Grande Santiago looks fantastic from the overlook near the zoo. I can't help but to think someone may have run it. On the other hand, being downstream from a city of 5 million I'm guessing it may not always be super clean. If anyone knows anything about river running in that area, I sure would appreciate the info.
Thanks
