I'm not Russian or anything, but I used to be really into Russian history, and communism specifically, and took Lenin's original middle name. Now I'm not so interested, and as capitalist as you can get, but I've already been using the name on other message boards for years, so I just kept it. I know, not very interesting; I'm just another English/Irish/other white guy from suburban Nova Scotia. Did I disappoint you Capergirl? Smile

No! No! I'm the most boring! Very Happy

'Chosen' simply because I was skiving at work and had to get registered quick before my boss caught me. So didn't have time to think of the cooler, more sophisicated name that is obviously much more appropriate for me... Cool

Also my friends at home call me Laura C because there is another Laura lurking about. (Sometimes we are called Scary Laura and Scary Laura II.)

Just wait til I find an obscure Tolkienesque name. Then I'll show you...

Astonishingly, I'm not actually a doctor. My last name begins with J and so a japanese friend started calling me this because he had difficulty pronouncing it.

BTW please tell anyone who listens that "pronounciation" is not a word.

In Turkish, 'yaramaz' means naughty and/or useless. It is frequently used when describing some of my students at my private k-12 school here in Turkeyland. It was one of the first words I learned after arriving here. It is also the name of my cat. Strangely enough, she is very well behaved, almost stoned in demeanor. However, I liked the sound of the name so it stuck.

Not at all. I currently teach three Russian gentlemen and can see how fascinating Russian history can be. I'm learning a lot from them. Wink

I swear I just had this "discussion" with my students last week. I'm not sure it has sunk in, though. Cool

From entropy, one of Newton's laws of thermodynamics.

"a measure of the degree of disorder in a system; entropy always increases and energy decreases."

Just a reminder that the things I want to happen only happen if I put energy into their pursuit.

Sorry to make you wait, Capergirl. Embarassed I...uh...lacked energy to post. Wink

Someone I love told me a story once, about a mariposita who could not find her alitas. It is Spanish for little wings. I love the sound of it. And since I am not "Abroad" having an "Adventure" my wings feel quite little, indeed.

On other boards I am know as MaineGirl but felt that could not compete with Capergirl. At the time I joined up she was wearing sparkly pants.

Ditto to above. I too was mucking about at work and couldn't come up with anything original so Joseph P is it.
Alitas...Wow, my daughter is named Alita, however she was born in Thailand and my wife says it's a southern Thai Muslim name (oddly enough my wife is a Buddhist, but never mind).
