OK, another generalisation....each country has its strengths and weaknesses as a TEFL destination.

I will start with my home country - the UK. While there are undoubtedly some great jobs, they are few and far between. Most TEFLers in the UK are vastly underpaid by UK standards, working on short-term or non-existent contracts which might be pulled from under their feet at any moment. Except in places like London and Brighton the work is also seasonal (ie. summer), meaning that your meagre earnings will plummet still further when the mercury drops. Generally speaking, it's a crap TEFL destination.

On the other hand, there are few countries where you will have such a mixed, multinational, multilingual class, so from the standpoint of actual classroom teaching, I'd say it's probably difficult to find a better country.

[quote="Marcoregano"]Yes, I know it's difficult to generalise and there are always exceptions to the rule, but I wonder whether some folk out there would advise strongly against certain countries as TEFL destinations.[quote]

I think it's a little too broad a topic...
Let's face it, you could pick ANY country and hear both good and bad experiences regarding it. Take a look at where I am now. I've read a lot of complaints about Indonesia - but my school seems to be running reasonably well and I have nothing but good things to say.

Dear Is650, you made a fair point, so I changed the goal posts a bit. What, in a nutshell, is good and bad about Indonesia as a TEFL destination?
