How are int'l flights booked for getting in and out of the Kingdom for Eid breaks and/or semester breaks? This is not including the annual ticket home for those who have it.

I phone a travel agent, make a booking and then collect the ticket. With many airlines you can do it all online now.
The two airlines I use are Gulfair and Turk Hava Yollari.

Depends entirely on where you are going to. You may get better value online, or you may get it from the travel agent. Some flights can only be booked online; some only through a travel agent.

Lots of airlines to choose from. We are "encouraged " to use Saudi Arabian Airlines for the summer ticket - but have the option of taking cash. I am thinking of using Syrian Arab Airlines which flies three times a week from Dammam to Damascus. American colleagues are appalled and make cracks about Hizbollah. That just makes me more determined to use them.

Of course in this part of KSA we have the luxury of choosing between Dammam and Bahrain for international flights.

I have noticed that teachers here are in one of two camps.

1. The first group think only of departure from KSA and are out of here like a shot immediately their teaching duties are completed.

2. The second group are a bit more relaxed and can spend a day or two before making a leisurely departure.

Which of these two have a healthier attitude ?

I have never met anyone who fell into category 2.

Without exception everyone I knew departed as soon as humanly possible.

That would make them very normal imho.

Well he may be in need of serious medical help if that is the case.

I notice that you didn't put yourself in that category.

Well, I guess I have to put myself in that category. I don't even mind coming back early, so I must be in a category all by myself. Category 3? Still, it doesn't mean that I love it here, just that I find it tolerable.

And I am certainly not in need of medical help for this condition. Rolling Eyes

Thank you Madam Xanthi. I am not alone, believe me, there are some here who spend whole vacations in the KofSA. But you see we get so many !

I also belong to category 2. The direct flight to Colombo leaves Dammam airport on a Thursday night and gets in at six the next morning, so I always have a leisurely day to do any extra shopping, arrange for somebody to look after the flat in summer, sort out the computer files (the big problem whenever I go on holiday) and sort out anything else such as travellers cheques or travel insurance (though the latter I now buy annually).

It also gets me back on the Thursday evening, so I always have the Friday to adjust to drying out. If it's summer, I always leave a couple of days later as I hate a rush.

I doubt if it's a question of sanity. I make a point in my life to avoid stress, so it's more a personal choice, towards which chronic disorganization has a significant part to play.

I believe you, Uncle Scotty!
There are some teachers in the magic kingdom who spend most of the summer time teaching (summer term) and they get extra bonus for that!
So, Uncle Scotty, where do you put this category? And do you think they need special medical check? Laughing

Not at all, Teta Mia! Laughing
You are not by yourself, I know a lot of people who come back early for different reasons!
Also, I know some people who leave early for different reasons!
