I'm considering moving to KSA, so I have a few questions.

First, a few details about myself;

I have a BA in Communications Studies, a TEFL certificate, a post-graduate degree in TESOL and 5 years of ESL teaching experience in Korea(both corporate and elementary).

1. Will it be difficult to find a University or College job with my credentials?

2. I'll be bringing my Korean wife and she likes to drink(open season for all you bloggers Wink ). How long does it take to get to Bahrain from Riyadh or Dammam?

3. What cities do you recommend in Eastern KSA?

Thanks.

sorry to be such a newbie

19 Oct.

Yes, you can find a position rather easy. PMU is hiring at this moment.
It is in Al-Khobar, Eastern province, KSA.

Coming with your wife is no issue, alot of people travel accompanied.

Drinking. In public, no. However, there are possibilities. Also Bahrain is nearby for the Lounge Lizard Brigade.

From Al-khobar, Dammam is 1 1/2 hours away and Riyad is 6 hours away.

Since your post sounds fairly coherent, I'll give you the benefit of the troll doubt.

Alcohol is strictly illegal in the Kingdom, though as with many laws in many countries, those who want to find ways around this can usually do so. However, if alcohol is an important part of your wife's lifestyle, it goes without saying (?) that you should look elsewhere as a choice of destination. Also, bear in mind that KSA is not the best place for an unemployed spouse - it can be dispiriting to say the least.

If your wife enjoys a drink she should be fine in KSA as long as she doesn't demand quality. No fine wines here or excellent Czech or German beers. The booze is what you make at home or buy from someone on your compound. Some compounds have bars. KSA is awash with drink and heavy drinkers.

"Since your post sounds fairly coherent, I shall give you the benefit...etc. etc."
Does this tone strike anyone, aside from myself, as a trifle condescending? And it isn't as if our dear old Queen of the Desert has never spoken thus before.
Regards--just a curious American who would love to hear anyone's thoughts on the matter.

Since this is your first post, you may be unaware of the not unusual appearance of trolls with similarly worded posts.

Since the topic of this thread is whether themeepsong should come to Saudi with his Korean wife, I suggest keeping to the topic and perhaps you could send a PM to Ms Cleo if you are worried about her possibly being condescending.

EG Boy,

I am afraid that you will find this type of acid supercilliousness is stock in trade for the Aspic Queen.

Ditto for her handmaiden, who has just reproved you for daring to question the approach taken by one of the long-established posters.

The rationale behind this is that, as a new poster, you have few, if any, rights, and certainly any slip you make will be pounced on and publically derided.

This is a Teachers' Comunity. It is not, however, a Community of Practice. So-called "newbies" join, and frequently become so discouraged by the hostility they find that thery cease posting after a few days.

Which is what the obsessive-compulsive gang-leaders want.

Nothing a few spirits can't fix, which, in this case, would be very welcome! Wink

Oh dear oh dear, some of our darling male posters are way too sensitive for their own good.

Some might think it utterly unremarkable that a poster who is considering a sojourn in one of about five countries on earth which ban alcohol, should, in a short post, make reference to his wife's fondness for alcohol. That's fine. I, however, stand by his comments, whatever all our on-board ninnies with too much male-only time might think.
