Just a quick question, if I get a monthly subway pass will ECC reimburse me for that or do I have to pay individual trips and log the amount and submit that every month?

Though I have not started to work for ECC yet from what we were told at the interview, you will be reimbursed for a month pass as long as the number of trips to the school makes it worth while. I.e. if it works out that it actually saves them money or you would have spent more on individual passes to the school. However we were warned not to get one for months like December and August, when you have holidays and you are not making as many trips to the school. Hope that helps a little.

If you are going to the same location 5 days a week then they will certainly expect you to buy a monthly pass (teiki-ken) and will reimburse you for it, as that works out to be considerably cheaper than buying individual fares.

Any Japanese company I have ever worked for 5 days a week has reimbursed the amount for the teiki- that's standard in Japan. Places I have worked at part-time I have had to submit a claim form at the end of the month and they have reimbursed me amount of the individual fares.

Most teachers I know, and myself included, just get paid for the tickets you buy each day. You fill out a form saying how much you spend and they just put in on your paycheque each month - it's pretty easy. I don't know any teachers at ECC with a teiki......not even sure how they work exactly.

Very simple- a teiki is just a monthly pass where you specify 2 stations that you will travel between- usually your home station and your work station. If you travel 4 days a week or more on the same route it is cheaper to buy a teiki than pay for individual tickets.

In Nagoya, I went from Nagoya Station to Kanayama one year. I claimed that I would go by subway (230 yen) but actually took the train (160 yen). Or buy the 5000 yen pass which actually gives you 5600 worth of fare. ECC doesn't have to know. Better yet, I would just ride my bike and still claim the transportation cost. I don't know if you can still get away with these things anymore.

I haven't worked for EEC but in my experience with transport reimbursement, the company will decide and not you. They generally pay from the nearest station to your house to the nearest station to your place of work and whatever is the cheapest option.
