Hello all, I cannot find info on the AU Dubai website about their recruitment policies.
Does anyone out there know whether they actively recruit people from abroad for most positions, or attempt to hire locally?
How competitive is it to be placed there in comparison with other universities such as Zayed or HCT?
More generally, is AU Dubai considered a secure bet as an employer (that is, are they a solid school that will continue to be there, like AU Sharjah)?

Thanks everyone for your insights....

In the scheme of things, I'd argue that AUS is the highest quality institution in the UAE. I'd say they're followed by Zayed University, then possibly UAEU (depends on the day), after which I'd throw in PI, then possibly HCT --- with AUD being possibly within the top 10 ---- but well behind the more reputible institutions.

AUD is part of the for-profit American Intercontinental. They don't have much to do with a reputible American institution.

If I cared about my CV, I suspect I'd stick to the top 3-5 institutions.

Thanks, uaeobserver -- upon your comment I looked into AIU and found that they offer AUD as a study abroad option for their students.....No mention I could find about AUD's connection to AIU on AUD's website, but that's not a surprise, if the for-profit aspect of AIU is a big part of their reputation, as in the case of University of Phoenix. At least AUD is accredited by one of the reputable regional accrediting bodies in the U.S., so they must have *some* standards. Thanks for your help on this question.....

Did you read this thread? It is new enough to be pretty useful since things don't normally change too much in a year or two:

http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=47470&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=aud&start=0

There is an employment section on their website, but they didn't list any EFL openings. That department appears to have only about a half dozen people and only one obviously Western name. Reading through the faculties of the various departments, it doesn't look like they do much recruitment from very far afield.

It appears to be secure enough as it has been around for a few years now, but definitely a lower tier employer and university.

Hi veiledsentiments, Thanks for the link -- I did not find that thread when I did a search. Yes, easy to find employment page on their website. I'm actually in academic administration, not TEFL, but thanks, it's good to know the greater context.

Not sure I'd ever use the word "standards" when it comes to education in the gulf region. Maybe in the gold souk ---- but not in the classroom.

John Chilton from emirateseconomist.blogspot.com has written about AU-Dubai a few times.

Run a search on his page....
